Strong and elegant, bamboo has been used for thousands of years for home building and furniture.
As a highly valuable and renewable natural ressource, bamboo offers a variety of products which can meet both residential and commercial needs worldwide. Beside its natural beauty, bamboo is wear-resistant and durable wich makes it an ideal flooring material.
Unlike traditionnal hardwoods, bamboo is made from quick growing bamboo stalks. Botanically they are not wood but grass and are the fastest growing woody plant on earth. They grow in large amounts and to a height of 60’ within the first several months of growth and thereafter are harvested every 3 – 5 years. If it is not cut within 5 years, the bamboo will fall. It must be used or lost unlike the use of hardwood trees which are normally decades old when cut. This makes bamboo one of the most renewable and abundant natural resources on the planet.
By selecting bamboo flooring you reduce the consumption demand for rainforest hardwood materials, and in the process help save the environment for our future generations.
Supporting the Farmers
• Renewable natural resource coming from plantations manages by the government of Vietnam. No conservation areas or forests are harvested for production of bamboo
materials.
• Easy to grow in regions suffering from massive deforestation and high valuable material for local inhabitants.
• Development project with the IFC, Asian Development Bank, Making Markets work for the poor, www.markets4poor.org, and GRET (French NGO www.gret.org)
• They increased the yield of useable bamboo, and reduced the transportation cost of raw materials to TBF, hence giving more profit to the farmers who can support their families for food and education.
• The waste is used for chopsticks, paper pulp and remaining sawdust for fuel bricketts or carbon water filters.
